Getting Cargo to the Departure Port

No matter where our clients (or their equipment) are located in the United States, K International Transport can ship it from any major American port. Ship high/heavy machinery from U.S. departure ports including those in New York, Maryland, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Texas, California, and Washington

In the past, we have shipped excavators, cranes, bulldozers, stone cutters, agricultural equipment, mining equipment, and dump trucks, among other types of equipment. Often, clients are unable to transport their Kobelco, Caterpillar, Hitachi, or Komatsu equipment to the port of origin in the United States because of the equipment’s  size and weight. In these cases, we can enlist the services of  trucking companies to provide dependable inland transportation. They will deliver the equipment from the client’s door to the port in a timely manner and with the utmost care.

Documents Required for Shipping to the Middle East

However, before you ship, you must submit all the necessary documentation. Having all these documents in hand ensures that the international construction equipment shipping process can begin and end successfully.

First, shippers must submit a power of attorney form, which will legally allow K International Transport to handle your shipping. Certificates of title for each piece of equipmentmust be provided as well to prove ownership. Last but not least, shippers must provide their identification and the identification of the consignee. With these information K International Transport will create a bill of lading (similar to a receipt of shipped goods). This document allows the consignee to take possession of the equipment once it arrives in the Middle East.

Once these documents are received by K International Transport, shippers can let us know of their preferred time frame for shipment. We ask for all documentation before scheduling shipments  for a date that is agreeable with the shipper’s schedule.

Shippers should keep in mind that the above mentioned documentation may not be the end of the requirements. Destination ports may have their own requirements for the cargo being imported into the country such as equipment inspections and cleanings.

Overseas Shipping Options: RORO and Container Shipping

Construction equipment can be shipped via roll-on/roll-off (RORO) vessels or by container. RORO is most common for towable and self-propelling machinery because the equipment can simply be driven onto and off of the vessel, rather than being loaded in more complicated ways.

Containers are great for static equipment and for shipment to ports that do not have RORO capabilities. Construction equipment that can be dismantled  are loaded into 20-foot or 40-foot containers and reassembled when it arrives overseas. Often, this option can provide savings to shippers in the form of lower freight costs and duty rates. However, shippers may have to dismantle and reassemble the equipment themselves or otherwise pay for dismantling services.

Equipment that exceeds the width and height for a container can be transported on a flat rack container. Flat racks only have two sides, so the bulky equipment can stick out of the container during transport. No matter what the situation is, K International Transport can help shippers find the best mode of overseas transportation for construction equipment.

There is certain information about the cargo you must know to get an accurate rate. This will include the dimensions of the equipment which consist of the length, width, height, and weight.
