One of the most important steps in the shipping process is gathering the required documents to ensure the shipment is processed. Depending on the country, there will most likely be specific customs orders to follow, but here is a general list of documents most countries require. 

1. Bill of lading (BOL): contract between the shipper and the carrier that confirms the shipment and allows it to be released. The bill will be slightly different depending on if the cargo is being shipped by land, water, or air. This is the most important document as it ensures a legal transaction. 
2. Commercial invoice: official proof of sale issued by the seller stating to the buyer the products, quantities, and prices and indicating the terms of the payment. 
3. Dangerous goods form: in the event cargo being shipped has a unique set of customs protocols or is hazardous, a detailed procedure must be followed.
4. Insurance certificate: issued by the insurance company to certify the shipment is protected. 
5. Letter of credit (or prepayment): list of terms and conditions and official payment method between buyer and seller. This method is considered to be very safe.
6. Purchase order: declaration the order has been received. Includes who the transaction is between, what products are being shipped, and the date of the transaction.  
7. Packing list: itemized list that includes detailed information on the weight, dimensions, safety measures, quantities, and packaging types of all cargo. This document is especially necessary during customs inspections. 
8. Power of attorney: gives the shipping company, like K International Transport, the authority to handle the cargo during the shipping process.
9. Official certificate of origin (COO): declares the country the products originate from. This document includes the name and address of the shipper and buyer and a signature from authorized personnel. 
10. Shipper’s letter: provides detailed information on how the cargo should be handled.
