Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago

Just off the coast of Venezuela, lies the small island of Trinidad and Tobago. Once a
colony of Spain, it is now a major hub for activity in the Caribbean. Its capital city, Port of Spain,
inhabits the northwest corner off the Gulf of Paria and is home to the majority of the country’s
retail and administrative duties.

The port has been in operation for over 60 years and has been a leader in facilitating
connections between the Americas and the Caribbean. Its main exports agricultural products and
manufactured goods.

The port is split up into different domains to handle the various operations. The port
authority of Trinidad and Tobago Governing Unit is the main governing body. Its mission is to
support the achievements of stakeholders and its vision is to “be the critical enabler in ensuring
that all SBUs become efficient, sustainable, responsive and productive organizations.” The port
of Port of Spain handles cargo including containers, breakbulk, roro, liquid/bulk, and more. In
2023, it handled over 55,000 imports and exported 19,000 items. Lastly, the Trinidad and Tobago
